A day, or two, in the life of ME,
right before The C Word Launch Party

I ran around that day a whole lot more than I’d planned for more than a month to, with two of my closest friends in tow that had flown in the night before to celebrate and support me, and to help in any way they could. Most of the heavy lifting for the event was facilitated by White House Design Studio, where the event was taking place so I wasn’t really concerned at all about the venue, set-up, etc. But all the other little pieces I needed to do that came out of the wood work started to pile up.  It all started on the Thursday evening prior, sitting at my hairdresser’s shop. I’d only stopped by to pick up a couple “Thank you” gifts and was telling her I didn’t know when I’d be able to wash my hair with everything I had going on that evening. God bless her, because even though she was finishing up for the day, she washed my hair, so that was one less thing I had to do before I could lay my head on a pillow. Thank you Shonia’s Unique Designs! But it was at the shampoo bowl when we realized I had a full-blown sinus infection and needed to go see a Doctor immediately. Great. So with a new plan for the evening in place, at 9:00pm I picked up one friend from the airport and headed straight for NextCare where I’d made a 10:00pm appointment. While waiting to be seen there, my other friend’s flight landed, so she was going to have to wait for me to finish up with the doctor and pick-up my prescription before I’d be able to pick her up. But oh, first, I needed gas. As I finished up at the pump, I looked down to see a flat tire. What?!?!!!! A full hour later, after the AAA guy met us at the gas station, and after I picked up my prescription, at almost midnight, we headed back to Sky Harbor to pick up my very patient second friend from the airport. All three of us were hungry so we picked up some fast food and headed to the house. And we went right to sleep. Wrong! We talked for a little while and I got everyone situated, my head finally meeting that pillow just shy of 2:00am. The next day from 8:00am all the way up to the actually event time was a series of making stops, picking up, dropping off and repeating. But through all of that, the night was magical; one I’ll always remember fondly, as the culmination of a dream coming true. Everything was just perfect and I think the mega-watt, brighter than the sun smile I had on my face all night showed how happy and pleased I was. If you didn’t catch my post on how all this book-writing stuff came to fruition, have a read here at my post back in April announcing The C Word to the world.

The event set up was designed and executed by White House Design Studio, and the music was provided by Vaughn “SWIF” Willis. Take a peek below at the slide show of images from The C Word Launch Party, (photos by Nick Nicholson Photography) and a special congrats video from DeVon Franklin
