Time To Do The Laundry!

It’s time to do the laundry! But not really. So this post is more about being satisfied and content with what you have than about a laundry room reveal. I know, you’re like, huh? Let me explain….

So in most of my previous decor posts I talked about how much of an adjustment it would be living in this house because it was significantly smaller than my last home. And for the most part I’ve gotten over that… except when it comes to certain spaces. Yes, in the “Not So Master, Master Closet” post, I shared how I had to “glamorize” my much smaller closet for me to be comfortable with it. So yes, I somewhat “got over it” with that space. The laundry room… can you really call such a tiny space a “room”? Anyway, the laundry room is another story. In my “Real Deal” post I detailed my coming to terms with the huge expenses associated with new build homes. Some of my “save for later” wish list items affected the laundry room more than other rooms, so this space is still a bit of a struggle for a couple reasons. Here’s the “after paint” photo…

This space is 63″ x 70″ with an 8′ ceiling, i.e., small! Haha! The only upgrade I opted for here was the faux marble tile. Yes, I wanted cabinets but they didn’t make the cut. They were put on the wish list and I kept it moving. I also looked into a new washer and dryer, but there was nothing wrong with the 11-year old set I already had, and they were white which fit into my all-white decor so I decided it wasn’t that important to replace them. Would I have liked a sink too? Absolutely. But that would’ve required a whole different house, since there’s literally no room for one. The main reason I struggle is really my own fault. (Deep sigh) I spent too much time oogling over the laundry rooms of Pinterest and Instagram. Believe me, I’ve learned my lesson. Be inspired but don’t get caught up in all the pretty pictures. Since I was not going to have one of those fancied up laundry rooms, I got to work making the one I had as glamorous as possible for me. Here’s what it looks like now…

Nothing too fancy. I made it entirely white because it doesn’t feel so small with everything consistently white and bright. The laundry cart and picture came from Home Goods, as well as the vase holding the faux florals which came from Michael’s.

The rod iron piece on the wall came from Hobby Lobby many , many years ago, and I white-washed it to go with the slight touch of shabby chic/farmhouse there. The fabric hung at the window I already had. All of my fabric for draping and swagging comes from SAS Fabrics, a discount fabric store here in Phoenix.

As I said earlier, I put off getting cabinetry to house my laundry accessories, so I had to get creative because I still didn’t want to see it at all. These inexpensive bins were found at The Container Store and they worked perfectly. Yes there is stuff in all of them 🙂

If you’ve read any one of my decor posts, you are aware of my love for chandeliers. This was one I purchased in 2007 for one of the bedrooms in my first home. Per one of my favorite re-purposing acts, I just spray painted it white and removed the glassware from around the lights. The fixture has been up for almost a year now and I haven’t decided if I’m going to adorn it with faux crystal drapes and drops like the one I re-purposed in my Master Bedroom, pictured in this post.

I really did want this to be a completely all-white space, and I am happy with the way it turned out. The longer I live in this house, the more I come to the realization of a couple things… 1: What I want decor-wise will be ever changing. Which leads to number 2: I’m never going to be finished decorating. I’ve already changed rooms around, swamped out accessories, and not just because the season changed. And I haven’t even started on my yard or my garage, yikes! Yes, decorating my garage is a thing for me, but I’ll save that for another post. I’m learning to be ok with the progression of decorating, but it’s not easy. Decorating is definitely one of my biggest passions. I am grateful for my home however, when I read this post back to myself it doesn’t sound like it. I am also so thankful for being blessed with the vision and creativity to pull together a home that I am pleased and satisfied with. I just have to remember that when I’m perusing the fabulousness of some of the feeds of Pinterest and Instagram! Leave a comment below and tell me what your greatest decorating challenges are. Until next time, :)xo

Well Done Lady. Too Bad I don’t have a window in my Laundry Room. That’s a great idea.
