It’s A New Vanity

A new Vanity!

No, none of these are mine, lol! But for as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted a vanity; a cute table and seat where I could put my makeup on. So far, my master bathrooms haven’t had built-in vanities. With the house I’m in now, I did try to create a “vanity vibe” with a counter height stool, and my makeup stored in those three, center drawers….

With the chair tucked away on the side, pulled out in the mornings to sit and do makeup, then placed back after I’d finished, this worked for a while, but it wasn’t ideal. I wasn’t what I’d envisioned for the last 20-something years. I mentioned my electrical woes in this blog post HERE, which at first, was my deterrent to following through on this. I purchased a dressing/vanity table a year and a half ago with the hopes of one day, turning it into a makeup vanity. Until now, I’ve used it just for styling, and for housing miscellaneous items in the drawer, but after finding a little inspiration in these photos…

I knew I could create something that would make me happy. Keep in mind, these are “staged” vanity drawers in the inspo pics. The makeup alone cost thousands of dollars, especially that Chanel drawer, yikes! And of course, the ones I liked the most (the top two) are custom sectioned drawers as well, (deep sigh), not movable inserts. But once I get excited about something, I’m not going to stop until the vision comes alive. So here’s how it started…

And here’s how it’s going….

All the Things...

I spent some time re-organizing so I could re-locate the miscellaneous items that were originally in the vanity drawer. After they were successfully placed in their new homes, I got started. Here are all the things I used for my set-up, and you can click each picture to access the link to the sources 🙂

The vanity drawer is not that deep, with approximately 2 inches of unused space behind what you see, and the drawer doesn’t pull all the way out. So after adding the contact paper to the bottom of it, and organizing the makeup in the trays, I didn’t want them to slide when I opened and closed it. So I used Museum Gel, purchased from The Container Store, one of my happy places!

I’m over the moon and just giddy with how it all turned out! I still have to address the electricity issue, because the mirror is not wireless, and there’s no outlet in the closet… yet. I’ve received a couple quotes on pulling the wiring from the outlet that’s directly on the other side of that wall the table is on, and it’s within my budget, double yay!

I love sitting here in the morning listening to music or the news as I get ready. AM prep time has always been my favorite time of day, and now it’s even more so. It’s the little things 🙂
