Black Again?

Black?... Again!

Black doors and rooms have been trending for a while now, and I first got the urge to try it on my front door last year. You can read about it HERE.

And then earlier this year, I wanted a change in the master bathroom from all the white (imagine that, lol!). So I decided to paint the back wall black. You can see how that turned out HERE.

But it wasn’t until I saw this episode of Galey Alix’s “Home in a Heartbeat” on HBO Max, that I realized I could paint a wall black and the room would still be light and bright. I loved a lot of what she did in this home.

If you’ve been rolling with me for a while now, you know, I absolutely love a feature wall. It’s the easiest and quickest way to switch things up in a space without over-committing and investing too much time. And if you don’t like it, it’s just paint, and it’s just one wall you have to change. And those of you who’ve been with me for a while also know that my paint brand of choice is Behr Marquee, with all three spaces I’ve painted being done in “Limousine Leather”. It’s a gorgeous semi-matte black that looks so elegant, purchased from Home Depot. I love this brand because it’s odorless, usually you only need a single coat, and the droppage is minimal.

I debated back and forth about it for almost a month before committing to it, and then went full in on how I would style it. I wanted less of the girly, princess-y feel, and more moody, elegant, and sophisticated, but still light and feminine. Here’s how it started…

Sometimes it’s the prep that takes the most time! And this was no different. After removing the mirrors, taking down the over-the-headboard decor, and removing the items from the top of the night stands, I had the very difficult task of moving the night stands away from the wall once I’d taken everything out of them. Mind you, as you can see by the photos, there was zero room between them, the bed and the walls. This part was painful, I can’t lie. and I second-guessed myself all while I was doing it, like, “it was just fine how it was Ingrid, but you’ve seen some show and been inspired.” Talking to myself of course. I would’ve shown you what the other side of the room looked like, but as usual, I totally forgot to take pictures of it. But trust me, it was all quite a mess, and getting those night stands back into place was no joke. Just know there was A LOT of touch-up painting that took place once I did get them back into the spaces. So here’s a few pics of the process, from moving everything, to the cut-ins to the 2 coats of paint being done.

And now here’s the finished room…

Other than the paint, I changed up the bed styling a bit by decreasing the number of decorative pillows, and adding just 2 double-trimmed black shams, the black faux fur throw, and the taupe knit throw, and replaced the table lamps for these remote non-hard-wired wall sconces, all from, you guessed it, Amazon. The black and white lumbar pillow is from Walmart, and the white vases are from Target. Everything else I already had. Though it was tedious, I used gold spray paint to paint the beading on the mirrors so they would pop against the black wall. It was worth it! I also switched things up on the other side of the room, so let’s take a look at how it’s going over there now…

The faux taupe throw and pillows I already had. I added upholstery padding to the ottoman to increase the size and added some faux fur animal print fabric I had. Although you can’t see them, I replaced the “feet” on it with these from, of course, Amazon. The C-table is also from, drumroll please… Amazon, lol!

You all know how much I love a spray painting project. This is a table I had from when I first moved into this house, but it was kind of silver/champagne in color, so I spray painted it, and it fit perfectly behind the love seat as a sofa table. I love when I can simply shop my own home!

And I love the reflection of the black wall in the mirrors!

I’m obsessed with how this master bedroom refresh turned out. It feels just how I wanted it to. And because I’ve been in love with this bed since the day I found it back in 2001, I wanted to “see” more of it; specifically the headboard. I can’t help but smile every time I walk in here now. So what shall I paint black next? 😉
