Coming and Going: Entrance Way Updates

COMING AND GOING: ENTRANCE WAY UPDATES

Ingrid February 2022

Sooo, several days later, after a harrowing experience of this site being hacked… yes, and yikes!!! I’m a week later than I wanted, but the crisis has been handled and I’m here! 😊 So let’s get into some decor, shall we?

It Started Off with Just a Rug Swap

Just a little update on The Queen’s Quarters. I’ve made changes to the entranceways; the front porch, front foyer got significant upgrades, while the garage and master bedroom entrances got minor ones. It all started with me standing in the front of the house, trying to envision a different type of rug, and then one thing led to another. Deciding to swap out the front entrance rug led me inside where I began re-imagining the foyer. I was never crazy about how it looked. It was still a “make do” area from when I moved in 2+ years ago. If you recall, back in July of 2019, the goal was just to get in and get set up within 30 days, using primarily things I already had, knowing some areas would be tweaked and changed as time went on. Well, the time had come to change this area, and then it spilled over into all the other entranceways! This is how the front door/porch area looked prior to the changes…

And here's what it looks like now...

Nothing was wrong with the blue, but good ole Instagram and Pinterest had me interested in the “black door” trend and I succumbed to it. I mean how bad could it be? If I didn’t like it, I could just paint over it. It’s such a small area but I still wanted it to look less plain. Once I had everything I needed, the painting and styling took just a few hours, and I’m really happy with how it turned out!

The wreath, topiary and Hello mat are from HomeGoods, the black indoor/outdoor rug is from At Home, and the ribbon is from Michael’s. The paint is Behr Premium Plus Exterior Paint and Primer in “Limousine Leather” from Home Depot. I only purchased a quart knowing it wouldn’t take that much, and I was right. Only two coats were needed to effectively cover the original color.

This little space is complete except for lighting. I’m planning to switch out the can lights for two outdoor chandeliers, of course! Here’s what I’m leaning towards getting from Amazon…

MOVING ON TO THE FOYER...

This is how my front foyer has looked since moving in more than two years ago…

I wanted this area to look more like the rest of the house. If you remember when I re-decorated the buffet nook across from the dining area, (you can read about that change here), I felt the same about that area; that it didn’t match the white, light, brightness of the rest of the house. So I had a vision and set out to achieve it. A few days later I re-styled it this way…

The area rug, mirror, black and white drawings, flower vase and butterfly accessory are all from HomeGoods. The table is from Amazon. Everything else was shopped from my home. Here, I also plan to have electrical work done to remove the two can lights and add a… you guessed it, a chandelier! This is the one I’m thinking of from Amazon.

The pictures that once hung in the foyer were moved to the master bedroom entrance…

And the painting that once hung in the master bedroom entrance, is now at the garage entrance….

I love how with a little thought, and a bit of moving things back and forth, it all comes together. So that’s what I’ve been up to the last couple weeks, and I’m very pleased. Of course there are a few other changes that are on The Queen’s Quarter’s radar, but they’re a little more on the pricier side, so they’ll have to wait. I think I’m done for now… ok we’ll see!😊xo
