Soooo I should’ve published this post right behind the Be My Guest post where I talked about the guest bedroom decor at The Dollhouse, but I wasn’t thinking. I’ve been so busy with everything concerning book marketing that I was just happy to get the post out! What I have learned outfitting the master bathroom, (you can read about that here), and the guest bathroom, is that when you have beautiful, upgraded appointments installed, there’s not a whole lot of “decor” necessary for the space. With an unlimited guest bathroom budget I’d have a gorgeous backsplash and flooring, upgraded cabinets, stunning faucet, counter top, lighting and tile around the tub. Ok so I just got two from that list, haha! I was able to upgrade my flooring to a faux marble, and get upgraded cabinets. That’s it, so I needed some decor elements. Those of you who follow this blog know I’m working on getting better with taking progress photos from beginning to end, but unfortunately I have no “before” photos of my guest bathroom. (Deep sigh) I know, I know. I’m working on it and I promise I’ll get better. But for now, here’s what the guest bathroom looks like…
Until I can get a tiled in bath with a glass door, I absolutely have to hang curtains from the ceiling. Behind the curtain is the shower liner, thus the two bars you see there.
In keeping with my all-white house theme, I knew I wanted the guest bathroom to reflect that as well. Outside of the curtains, from At Home and the bath mat from Target, I didn’t have to add much though, just some re-purposed items I had in my decor arsenal, including the towels. Those are actually the most expensive towels I’ve ever purchased, and I purchased them back in… oh boy, do I even want to say… back in 1989, from a fabulous department store called Marshall Fields & Co that closed it’s operations in 2006.
I’m nostalgic every time I look at them. My vision for this bathroom was clean simplicity with a little Parisian decor thrown in for good measure.
I’m so proud of myself for adding my own hardware in this bathroom too!
Now let’s talk about “the list.” You know I have a list of items and projects I want to take on in the future for each room at The Dollhouse. For this space I don’t have a lot I want to change on a realistic scale. I plan to take out the builder-grade mirror and add a more decorative one, and swap out the faucet at some point. On the grander, dream side of the list, I’d love to have a tiled bathtub, backsplash and a fantabulous (my made up word) mirror, swaping out the flooring and counter top for marble. That’s all. Haha!!!
The only problem I have with the guest bathroom is that nobody wants to use the white towels! You know, the ones housed in the linen closet, (featured here). As soon as I open the door to pull them out, everyone reaches for the grey ones that I use for myself. I get it. I used to be intimidated by white too, until I learned how I could live comfortably and realistically with the color. I love hosting guests, so maybe they’ll all “be my guest” often so they too can get comfortable with the all-white-everything home decor. Until next time…
Much love to you always,
