Lighting is Everything!

I’m a few weeks overdue with this post, so please forgive me. I had a scare with COVID. In fact, I’m not even sure I had it or not, because of the very high percentage of false/negative test results and lingering minor symptoms. Bottom line, thank God I’m feeling better!

The Dollhouse living room at night

I’ve always said lighting is everything, and now I’m convinced it is! About a month ago, I was googling closet lighting, trying to find an inexpensive work-around for motion-sensored lighting in my master closet. I love my closet. It’s become my favorite space in the house. You can read about how it all came together HERE. But I saw some pictures on Instagram that had this great, custom, lighting. And just like with any other high-end thing I see that I like, I began to think: How can I create something similar? For a whole lot less money of course. I came across these motion-activated Mr. Beams puck lights from Home Depot. I purchased three packs of two, and when I saw how great they looked and how much I like them, I actually made three more trips to two different Home Depot’s to get… (drumroll) 15 more packs, because I wanted to put them everywhere. I wound up with 30 lights! And I’ve never bought so many triple A batteries, haha!!! It’s 3 to a light, so… yeah, “that” many batteries! These lights are now in the pantry, the master linen closet, and hall closet.

In the Pantry…

I never turn the light on anymore in the pantry! You can read about the organization and styling of this space HERE.

In the Master Linen Closet…

These lights in this space, make having to get up and get something in the middle of the night, without turning on the bright overhead lights, perfect! To see how organizing this closet came together, you can view the post HERE.

So if I stop using the light switch in these areas, will my electric bill go down? Just thinking out loud…

Here’s how my new light placements turned out in the master closet…

Wrapping up

The lights come with double-sided tape so applying them was super easy. It took me less than a couple hours to add them all, and I couldn’t be happier. It really gives it a boutique feel, and I hardly ever turn on the overhead lights in the closet anymore. Let’s see what I come up with next to add to or change around The Queen’s Quarters. Stay tuned :)xo
