More than ever, people around the world are branching out and pursuing their dreams. YouTube has made it possible for anyone to become popular over night. Although blogging was created a couple decades ago, it seems as if in the last few years, the blogosphere has exploded and now every other person you meet has a published blog. There’s all kinds of singing competitions on television and online. Entrepreneurship is extremely popular today. Everyone has some sort of business venture they’re attempting to realize as their main source of income, as a supplement, or as a hobby. There are of course some fields that are more popular than others, e.g., make-up application tutorials. Sometimes I feel like if I see yet another video on how to apply the perfect winged eye liner I’m just going to scream, lol! And I love makeup! With all this saturation, it can be daunting when considering personally launching into some of these fields. You ask yourself the question: How do I do this and stand out from all the rest? How do I become the six millionth person to do videos on how to apply false lashes in three easy steps and not get lost in the crowd?
As one who is diving into some business ventures of her own that appear to have attracted so many others, I say, let’s go for it. Some people have more money to pour into their projects, better equipment and a host of resources, and many do not. These days it just doesn’t matter. Start where you are, with what you have, and just do you. I am often reminded of a sermon I heard a long time ago that asked the question: What’s in your hand? In other words, take inventory of what you have, tangible and intangible, and use what you’ve got. You have to just start doing. When you have more, use more. It can be very intimidating looking at what everybody else is doing in your chosen field, especially when you have big dreams and big goals, and then you add a dash of perfectionism and it’s easy to shy away. Those splashy blogs you admire so, and read constantly, just may not be doing as well as you think, or maybe they are, but they all had to start somewhere. Secondly, God made each and every one of us unique. No two people will ever do the same thing, the same, exact way, yet both can achieve great success at it. And then, what seems to work well for 10 people, may not work at all for you or for me. Everyone’s hustle won’t be the same. And that’s ok. You, do you. Proverbs 18:16 says “A man’s gift will make room for him, and bring him before great men.” But you have to start somewhere. Just be clear about what it is you want, start where you are, with what you have right now, stay focused, and do your best until it becomes better.
